Harmony House Preschool
Every child at Harmony House is given the individual attention to ensure that they their learning is directed by their natural interests and aptitudes. By capitalising on every child’s natural strengths, Harmony House will ensure that our children obtain the skills necessary for school readiness both socially and academically.
The uniqueness of the preschool is inspired by the uncommon opportunity for the children to be learning side by side with children with Autism in a fully integrated classroom. All of the children will have the opportunity to learn to communicate non verbally using PECS and sign language and Harmony House especially emphasises acceptance, diversity and understanding. Our intention is to prepare all of the Harmony House children to approach life and all people with those same values that the staff maintains in the classroom.

Curriculum for Preschool
The philosophy at Harmony House is to facilitate children’s learning by tapping into their natural curiosity and motivation about the world around them. A well thought out and developed curriculum will be shared with each family at the beginning of the school year along with a music CD that accompanies the themes. This allows the families to prepare for school every month and for the children to become comfortable with the harmony House routines and songs.
All learning at Harmony House incorporates stories, play, arts and crafts and language building skills to enhance each child’s social, physical and emotional well being. We respect and honor each child’s individual preferences and abilities and hope to encourage learning by providing activities that facilitate understanding about diversity and uniqueness.
Harmony House is dedicated to families therefore the school is built on the philosophy of embracing parent participation. Every school day a parent (per sign up sheet) is invited to stay and be a part of their child’s life as well as the school environment. This will give parents and their children the ability to contribute to moments that can be shared at home.
Preschool classes run from September to June.
Children must be at least 3 years old by the 31st of December 2009. The class will be limited to 14 students with a high ratio of adult supervision to ensure that every child receives the attention and an appropriate level of facilitation to optimise their learning.
The assigned parent helper also ensures that the classroom is organised and prepared for the children. Parents who are unable to participate are also welcome to invite other family members to participate with the children.
